The most significant improvement is the addition of the Modified X-Sole design featured in the company's X hybrids. The Modified X-Sole design interacts seamlessly with the turf, cutting through thick rough or gliding smoothly over tight fairways. It also lowers the leading edge to help launch the ball in the air more efficiently. As a result, you can attack the ball from just about any location on the course, whether you're launching shots off the tee or attacking the green from the rough. The X fairway wood also offers a slightly larger head size with an increased moment of inertia (MOI) and a slightly deeper face, thereby increasing the effective hitting area and providing confidence at address. And golfers will love the strategically positioned internal weighting system, which gives the clubface more stability on mis-hits while optimizing the ball flight trajectories from the fairway and the tee.
Explaining Callaway Golf Technologies
Callaway X fairway woods are outfitted with several core technologies, including both relatively new innovations and technologies that have stood the test of time. The clubs' Variable Face Thickness (VFT) technology, for instance, allows Callaway engineers to adjust the face thickness to maximize the ball speed and perimeter weighting of the club. This produces even more distance and forgiveness, a must when trying to eke out a few extra yards from the fairway on long par 4s and 5s. With VFT in place, the club is thicker in the center and ultra-thin around the edges, allowing the clubface to transfer more energy to the ball at the moment of impact. Another crucial improvement comes in the form of the S2H2 design, a patented technology that shortens the length of the hosel and allows Callaway to move the weight lower and to the more useful perimeter weight of the clubhead.
